Julio César talked us through Bogota the whole way out, and then Don Miguel, who owns the farm, walked us through every stage of the harvest himself. The tasting at the end was the best part. Worth the day if you are anywhere near the city.

The farm has been in the same family for three generations and you do all of it — harvesting, processing, then drinking what the farm grows. For anyone who likes coffee it is closer to a class than a tour. Carlos García gave us the Bogota history on the way as well.

The traffic coming back into the city was heavy and the return leg took nearly four hours. The driver handled it well and the guide at the farm was very good. Budget the whole day and it is fine.

I had decided to do this before I even landed. The green on the drive out is worth the trip on its own. Nick answered every question and Karen took us from plant to cup at the farm, and you taste the result.

A whole day from planting a seed to brewing a cup, and we picked our own cherries. It matters that the finca is owned and run by women. The food was homemade and some of the best we ate on the trip.

The driver-guide and the farm guide were both excellent and the waterfall stop is worth adding. I did not rate the coffee itself — it is brewed on an espresso machine, with no filter methods and nothing from the specialty end.

The transport was comfortable and Sebastian and Carlo San were good fun. They gave us a chocolate-and-cheese drink at the falls viewpoint that I would never have ordered myself. The coffee tour was detailed and the woman running it clearly loves it.
